Krk Island Itinerary: How to Spend 3 Days on Krk
The island of Krk, also called the Golden Island (Insula Aurea) offers so much more than just a three-day itinerary, but you can do and see quite a lot in three days if you are well-organised and prepared. Enjoy sightseeing, tasting local delicacies and relaxing at the beaches all around the island. We’ll show you how!
About the Island of Krk
The island of Krk is the largest island in Croatia, covering an area of 405.78 square kilometres, but you can easily reach almost all the attractions by car or by boat. It is divided into the town of Krk and six municipalities – Baška, Dobrinj, Malinska, Omišalj, Punat and Vrbnik, each with a different tradition and dialect.
Each place offers something special for each type of visitor and you can choose among culture, nature, sports, food or just relaxing by the sea.
This itinerary includes the town of Krk and its surroundings, Vrbnik and some extraordinary paradisiacal beaches all around the island and on the little island of Plavnik.
Things to Do in 3 Days on Krk Island
The advice on how to spend three days on the island of Krk is based on our own experience. We enjoyed exploring some of the cultural landmarks, tasting local delicacies such as sheep cheese, Krk’s prosciutto, pasta called “šurlice”, and we also relaxed on the beach and swam in the clearest sea. Listening to the valuable advice of the locals, we discovered the exquisite Kuush brand and its products.
Day One: The Town of Krk and Its Surroundings
The first day of our arrival was mostly dedicated to exploring some local products directly on local farms. It was such a good and authentic experience because besides tasting the local products, we could see how cheese and prosciutto were made. It is a must-do experience!
Immortelle Plantation
As soon as we arrived on the island, we went to visit the plantation and distillery of the Mediterranean immortelle plant. We enjoyed the tour of the plantation with donkeys welcoming the guests and learned some ways immortelle is used in the perfume, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries.
Since it was a very hot day, we didn’t do the whole tour but chose some of the natural products made from immortelle.
Family Cheese Dairy
Our second stop on the first day was the OPG (family farm) Magriž, a family cheese dairy owned by Ms. Vesna Mrakovčić and managed by her family in a small village called Lakmartin, easily reachable by car, only 5 minutes ride from the town of Krk. The owner of the dairy, Ms. Vesna Mrakovčić and her daughter Mirjanka were excellent hosts and we could almost feel their love and dedication to the 40 years long family business, full of recognition and awards. We toured the dairy where the cheese and other dairy products are made on a daily basis with a lot of knowledge and skills. The cheese was so tasty, we tasted the one with sage, as well as the spicy one and the smoked one. We couldn’t stop eating them, but there was another tasting on our list the first day, so we left some room for Krk’s prosciutto.
If you want to book the cheese tasting experience, contact Valamar Experience Concierge.
House of Krk’s Prosciutto
Not far away from the cheese dairy, there is a House of Krk’s prosciutto (Kuća krčkog pršuta). It is located in Vrh, another point of interest if you are a fan of locally and traditionally made food.
In the House of Krk’s prosciutto, we could see (through the glass doors and windows) various stages of prosciutto production. Krk’s prosciutto is dried with the skin on, through a natural process of drying called “zrenje” in the Croatian language, with the help of the bora wind and sea salt. Did you know that prosciutto from Krk was the first Croatian product to be protected by the European Union? The owner, Mr. Vjekoslav Žužić, proudly told us about all the achievements of this internationally recognised prosciutto with a long-standing family tradition.
So, the last thing left was to taste some prosciutto and a dish made with it. We tasted “šurlice”, a traditional Krk pasta made with prosciutto and tomato. It was extremely delicious.

Afternoon at the Beach
In the afternoon, we went to have a break in our cosy mobile home at the Valamar Camping Ježevac . And of course, we couldn’t miss the perfect opportunity to go swimming on the Val Lungomare Family Beach. There are plenty of choices in the camping resort if you want to spend time in the pool area or relax in the wellness area.
Dinner at Malo Misto
In the evening, we went to the Malo Misto restaurant, inspired by a classic Croatian TV show. The food was a mixture of traditional dishes made with a modern twist, paired with an excellent choice of Croatian wines, while the ambiance of the restaurant was really cool and charming at the same time with a kind service provided by its owners. We will certainly be back.
HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY ONE:
Local producers: immortelle plantation, family cheese dairy, House of Krk’s prosciutto
Where to swim: Ježevac Premium Camping Resort beach
Where to eat: House of Krk’s prosciutto & Malo Misto restaurant in the town of Krk
Day Two: Boat Excursion to the Golden Beach & Love Cave
The second day was dedicated to a boat excursion and it was an excellent idea since the temperatures were still extremely high, and on the boat, with a light breeze, we could get some refreshment. The tour included dolphin watching and we were so blessed to be able to see some of them swimming and playing near the boat.
Golden Bay Beach
Our first stop was the Golden Bay Beach (also known as Velo Čelo Beach), which was named after the “golden” walls. The beach has the most beautiful little pebbles that I’ve ever seen and the clearest water.
Tourists on the boat were all prepared for snorkelling since you had to jump from the boat to get to the beach and sunbathe. Golden Bay Beach is located between Punat and Baška and it is only accessible by boat.
Visit to the Love Cave on Plavnik Island
After quite a long sail, we reached one of the most romantic spots of the boat tour, the so-called “Love Cave” on the small island of Plavnik. It is specific because you can reach it by swimming through a narrow and dark tunnel. When you reach the little beach, the view of the sun and sky is spectacular. A must-see on the tour.

Lunch at the Oliva Grill in Ježevac
After the boat tour, we returned to the Ježevac Camping Resort, where we had dinner at the Oliva Grill restaurant, which is located near the beach with a spectacular sea view. It offers delicious, easily prepared meals. The bruschettas were excellent.
Beaches Near Stara Baška
After lunch, we continued our tour of the island. On the list for day two was the Oprna Beach on our way to Stara Baška and a fine pebbled beach of the Camping Škrila. We wanted to reach Oprna Beach from the road, but climbing up and down wasn’t a good idea since we were not prepared for climbing with the adequate footwear and the temperature was really high so we just took some beautiful photos from the viewpoint and continued our way to the camping resort near Stara Baška. After having a drink in the beach bar, we enjoyed the time at the Camping Škrila beach very much. It was a perfect way to end our second day.
HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY TWO:
Where to swim: Golden Bay Beach, Love Cave Beach (on the island of Plavnik), Oprna Beach, Camping Škrila beach (near Stara Baška)
Where to eat: Oliva Grill (Valamar Camping Ježevac)
Day Three: Cultural Landmarks of the Town of Krk and Vrbnik
The third and the last day was dedicated to exploring some cultural and historical landmarks of the town of Krk, which are really impressive. We recommend going sightseeing early in the morning when the sun is not so high. The second part of the day was dedicated to the visit of the small and charming town of Vrbnik.
Frankopan Castle
Frankopan Castle can be seen by walking along its walls, visiting the three towers and admiring its spacious interior with some exhibitions. There is a spectacular view from the castle’s walls, ideal for taking stunning pictures. The castle is nine hundred years old and it is an important testimony of the history of the population of Krk. It is located in the Kamplin square in the old town of Krk.
Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre
If you want to find out more about the maritime tradition of the island of Krk, your must-visit place is the Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre.
The centre was opened in 2018 as part of the “Mala barka 2” project, realised within the Interreg V-A Slovenia-Croatia 2014 – 2020 cooperation programme.
It consists of an exhibition of shipping, shipbuilding and fishing on the island of Krk. During a one-hour conversation with Mr Željko Skomeršić, ship modeller and collector, you will discover a lot about the tradition and history of seafaring on the island of Krk, and if you are more into the topic, you will have the opportunity to go through the historical books and scripts that you can find in the centre.
Visit to Vrbnik and Lunch at the Nada Restaurant
Vrbnik has always been known as one of the most charming little towns on the island of Krk. It is located on the east coast of the island, and is perched on a limestone outcropping 50 metres above the sea. It is famous for its white wine, “žlahtina”, which we recommend you try. After a short visit to Pod Kovač Beach, we went to Nada, a restaurant full of tradition, where we ended our three-day trip around the island of Krk.
Pod Kovač Beach
The Pod Kovač Beach is surrounded by high rocks, above which the town of Vrbnik is located. It is possible to reach the beach on foot through a rocky passage leading from the village. It can be entered through a small hidden entrance between the rocks, which is located right next to the jetty (port of Vrbnik). It is recommended visiting the beach before noon, because during the day there is a lot of shade due to its location.
Lunch at the Nada Restaurant
One of the best places where you can taste quality traditional cuisine, especially fish and home-made pasta, as well as the famous “žlahtina” wine, is Nada Vrbnik, a restaurant with a tradition of more than 40 years.
You can have a tasting of “žlahtina” on the terrace overlooking the bay. The views are spectacular, but since the temperatures were extremely high, we decided to taste it inside the air-conditioned restaurant. The grape is considered a native sort of Krk vineyards and its name comes from the Slavic adjective which means “noble”.
Kuush Products in Vrbnik
Before our departure, we wanted to find the Kuush shop in Vrbnik to buy some of the local products, such as immortelle or sage brandy, but unfortunately, the shop was closed. Luckily there is a Kuush shop in Ježevac Premium Camping Resort, so you can find their original autochthonous products even there.
HIGHLIGHTS OF DAY THREE:
Cultural landmarks: Maritime Heritage Interpretation Centre, Frankopan Castle
Where to buy local: Kusshh
Where to swim: Vrbnik Pod Kovač Beach
Where to eat: Nada restaurant in Vrbnik
