Guided Boat Tours

Tourist Boat Fjera at the Poreč Waterfront
On our boat tour with Fjera, a traditional vessel built in 1938 and transformed into a tourist boat in 2015 – we had the chance to enjoy the magic of the sea while learning many fascinating details not only about this stunning part of the Adriatic coast but also about the stars of the tour: the dolphins. Our guide Stefan shared everything about these amazing creatures in fluent English and German, guiding guests through this unique sea adventure. The warm, welcoming atmosphere on board is thanks to the cheerful and friendly crew. You can also meet Stefan aboard the Kristofor, another tour boat where you can enjoy panoramic trips and dolphin watching in Poreč.

Why Dolphins Love the Western Coast of Istria
The western coast of Istria, especially the area around Poreč, is a true haven for dolphins. This region is rich in fish and marine life, and the calm, relatively warm waters of the Adriatic provide the perfect habitat for this intelligent and playful species. Additionally, human activity along this part of the coast is mostly gentle and well-regulated, allowing dolphins to thrive in their natural environment without disturbance.
Where and When You’re Most Likely to Spot Them
Dolphins are most commonly seen in the late afternoon or early evening, when the sea begins to cool and the waters become calmer. Your best chances for sightings are along the Poreč Riviera, especially between Vrsar and Novigrad, near small islands and shallow waters where fish tend to gather. The highest likelihood of encounters is during the warmer months, from May to September, when the sea is rich in food.
Our guides are often skilled at spotting the subtle signs of dolphin presence, from the ripples they leave on the surface to brief surfacings as they swim in pods. That’s why it’s important to follow the guide’s instructions while on board and be quick when it comes to capturing photos or videos of these magnificent creatures.
The Best Time of Day to Look for Dolphins
The ideal time for dolphin watching is in the early evening, when dolphins are most active and often swim close to the surface in groups. Naturally curious, they may even approach the boat, especially if the atmosphere is calm and cheerful. It’s crucial, however, that dolphins don’t feel threatened. Respecting their space and natural movement ensures a peaceful and memorable encounter.

Enjoy the stunning view of Poreč from the sea
Even when the dolphins aren’t in the mood to show up, cruising along the Poreč Riviera offers a magical experience. The view of Poreč, with its charming old town seen from the sea, is simply priceless. We were lucky to catch a glimpse of a few dolphins out in the open sea, they leapt from the water and performed small acrobatics, almost as if they knew we were watching. The children on deck were full of excitement, while the adults stood in awe, silently capturing every moment.
