It is difficult to single out the most popular sights, but make sure not to miss visiting its Fortica Fortress. It was built at the beginning of the 16th century, and today it houses a collection of amphorae and other exhibits from the period of antiquity and the Middle Ages. In addition to returning to the past, you will also enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of the city of Hvar and the Pakleni Islands.

Stari Grad is an unavoidable stop during you sightseeing tour of the island. Get lost in its colourful narrow streets, have a cup of coffee in local cafés and visit the summer residence of Petar Hektorović. It was built by a famous Renaissance poet, and its beautiful interior will leave you breathless. Stari Grad offers countless attractions, and if you decide to spend a few days here, take a tour of the Stari Grad Plain, a cultural landscape that is under the protection of UNESCO.

Theatre lovers should not miss visiting the Hvar Theatre from the 17th century. It is one of the first theatres in Europe, and was built on the old Arsenal – an area for repairing galleys and storing nautical tools. The exterior of the theatre has been preserved in its original form, and the interior dates from the 19th century.

The north side of the island hides the fairy-tale beaches of Mala Stiniva and Vela Stiniva, famous for their vertical rocks that descend into the sea and create a unique view. Lavanda and Duboka beaches are also unavoidable, as they will enchant you with their crystal clear sea and the beautiful view of the bay of Stari Grad. It is impossible to list all the beaches you can enjoy, but some of them are Smokvina, Pokonji dol, Jagodna or Milna – a popular destination for families.
